Other Activities

Some of the free (or very cheap) activities available in Broome.

Gantheaume Point Walk

The first bus of the day (departs at 7.50am) stops at Gantheaume point where you can experience some of the most beautiful and picturesque coastline in Broome, fish off the rocks, and view the ancient dinosaur footprints (at low spring tides only). Enjoy a leisurely 5km walk back along Cable Beach (remember to take a hat and sunscreen as there is no return bus service).

Availability: All year – except public holidays
Duration: 1 hour (minimum)
Departs: 7.50am from the Divers Tavern Bus Stop

Dinosaur footprints

See the amazing dinosaur footprints from a carnivorous species that lived in the Broome region 120 million years ago. These can be viewed in the tidal regions below the cliffs at Gantheaume Point, when the tide is below 2.16m (for one set) and 1.46m (for all three).

Please take care when climbing on the rocks as they will be slippery and contain sharp shellfish.

Ask for a map and tide chart at reception.

Availability: At low tide only – once or twice per month – around full moon and new moon each month
Duration: 1 hour (approximately)
Departs: Sunrise or sunset

Broome Museum

Interested in the history of Broome? Visit the Broome Museum. The museum contains an interesting collection of historical pearling equipment and other items from the early pearling days in Broome.

Located on the Saville St, opposite the Seaview Shopping Centre.

Availability: June to September– 10am to 4pm Mon to Friday and 10am to 1pm Saturday and Sunday.
October to May – 10am to 1pm daily

Flying Boat Wrecks

Visit the historic flying boat wrecks at low tide. The flying boats were destroyed in a Japanese air raid during World War II and can be viewed when the tides are very low (less than 0.8m).

The wrecks are easy to find and are located about 1km from Town Beach. It is best to plan to walk out about 1 hour before low tide to allow sufficient time to visit the wrecks before the tide turns.

Availability: Very low tides only (less than 0.8m)
Duration: 1 hour (minimum)
Departs: Sunrise or sunset
